The application process for Sale High School is managed by Trafford Local Authority (LA). The LA will provide application forms for parents, which have to be returned by a specific closing date, usually at the end of October in your child’s Year 6. To secure a place, parents are advised to put Sale High School as your their choice.
Parents who live outside Trafford may still apply for a place at Sale High School using the application form provided by their own local authority.
Parents in Trafford may wish to have the results of Trafford’s 11+ test before making their school selections. The application process requires parents to make a first choice for a grammar school and a first choice for a high school at the same time on the same form. Please put in Sale High School as your first choice for the high school category.
Students will be admitted at age 11 without reference to ability or aptitude. If the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria will be employed by the LA to determine which pupils to admit. The criteria are applied in the following order:
1. Special Educational Needs - children with a statement of special educational needs who state a preference for Sale High School on the statement.
2. Looked after children in the care of Trafford MBC residing in the Sale Moor Priory and Brooklands wards of the borough.
3. Siblings - children who have brothers or sisters currently at the school.
4. Distance from school - finally, admissions will be decided on the basis of how near to school applicants live, measured by the distance from the home front door of the applicant’s place of residence to the main entrance of the school.
Waiting lists for admission will be compiled in accordance with the admissions procedure. Parents, carers or guardians of any children refused admission have the right to appeal to the school. If you need advice or assistance with any aspect of the application process or with your application, please contact the school on 0161 973 2713.
Admission arrangments for students with special needs
Standard admission procedures are followed for students who are not the subject of Statements of Special Educational Needs. If appropriate under the SEN and Disability Act 2001 and the 2002 revised code of practice, students are placed on the school’s Special Action List. Additional strategies and support are given to allow them equal opportunities for educational achievement. All staff have a direct responsibility for meeting the needs of all students in their classes. Students are allocated provision and support according to individual needs and whether they are at School Action Plus stage or have a statement of special educational needs.
