Sale High School : School History
School History

Sale High School has had many different names over the years, most recently being known as the Jeff Joseph Sale Moor Technology College.

This name was given to the school in 1994, as part of a Government initiative to promote the use of technology in schools. The school received funding from central government and from private sector sponsorship provided by Sir David Alliance. He named the school after his mentor, Jeff Joseph, who came to England from Iran before the Second World War.

Jeff Joseph settled in Manchester and opened a textile company which became very successful. Sir David was helped and encouraged by Jeff Joseph as a young man, and when he was in a position to support a secondary school, he wanted it to be one which would provide a good technological foundation to help young people into higher education and employment.

In 2006, the Governing Body took the decision that a new start was needed to take the school forward again. Consultations followed, and the new name agreed upon, to link the school closely to its local community. Sale High School was launched in September 2006, with a new uniform being introduced during 2007.

The new school badge has two parts: one represents the dovecot in Walkden Gardens, and the other a bird. The dovecot was once part of Sale Old Hall, and is a historic part of the town of Sale. The bird is a representation of a moorcock, a bird that was once common when Sale Moor was open marshland. It was used by the local Massey family as part of their crest, and also by Sale Urban District Council.
